Zataar Cheese Triangles

These wonton wraps are filled with a flavorful cheese mixture and lightly fried then baked for a cheesy crunchy goodness!

Recipe:

Makes around 30-35 Wonton Triangles

1 8oz. or block of Cream Cheese, softened at room temp.

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

3 tablespoons dried oregano or thyme

** You can also use chive, green onion, Italian seasoning, they all taste great

1 package wonton wraps (that has at least 40 sheets)

1/4 cup water

1 tablespoon corn starch

Canola oil for frying

Directions:

  1. Mix the softened cream cheese, shredded Mozzarella cheese, and oregano in a bowl. Mix the ingredients well.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix the water and corn starch.

  3. Grab one wonton wrap and put 1 tsp of the cheese mixture in the middle.

  4. Put your finger in the corn starch mixture and wipe some of the white starch on two sides of the wonton square that are next to each other.

  5. Fold the wonton over the cheese into a triangle and press the sides together. The starch is supposed to help stick the sides together. If they don't stick together then add some more of the white starch with your fingers.

  6. Lay each triangle on a parchment paper on a tray. Make sure they don't touch each other.

  7. When you're done folding all the triangles, place the tray with all the wonton wraps in the freezer for 30 min. or when you are ready to start cooking them. Even if they freeze, do not defrost them.

  8. Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan, it must be very hot.

  9. Fry 3 wonton wraps at a time for 1 min. on each side. The point of frying is to have some bubbles on the outside and give the wonton wrap a little color. Then place the wonton wraps on a baking sheet and bake for 10 min. at 350 Fahrenheit in the oven.

  10. Remove from oven and place on a towel to absorb the oil.

  11. Serve warm and Sahteen!
