Cheese Boat Fatayer

Recipe: (makes 8-10 fatayer)

1 dough recipe

1 block 8 oz. feta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup parsley, minced

2 tbsp nigella seed (optional)

Directions:

  1. Make the dough ahead of time and allow it to rise for 1-2 hrs.. Then clean a countertop and dust it the countertop with flour. Divide the dough into equal size ball. Check the dough link on how to make the fatayer dough.

  2. Place cheeses and minced parsley in a bowl. Use a form to crush the feta while mixing the ingredients.

2. Stretch the dough into an oval and place the cheese in the center lengthwise.

3. Bring the sides over the cheese to create a long shaped “boat” like in the picture. And press the ends to secure the shape of the dough.

Note: you must make sure the feta cheese is dry of water, otherwise it will make the dough wet and the sides will open.

4. Bake on a baking sheet with a parchment paper at the bottom rack for 8 min. or until it gets a golden bottom, and on the top rack for 5 min. then broil for 2 min. or until the top is golden brown.

5. Remove and enjoy with a side of tomatoes and labneh. Don’t forget the breakfast tea! Sahtean!
