Steak and Cheese Sub

My mother has always made great Lebanese food and I try to sneak her recipes and test them. But, my father has an exceptional taste with American deli food that he uses at his deli. These are simple ingredients to add to your steak and cheese to make it a true American deli sandwich.

Ingredients for one sub-roll sandwich:

1 - 12 inch sub-roll bread

2 sheets philly beef shaved steak

2 tsp canola oil

1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced

1/4 cup purple onion, diced

1 tsp soy sauce

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp paprika

Toppings:

2 slices American Cheese

1 tablespoon Mayo (or my spicy mayo)

1/4 tomatoes, diced

4-5 slices dill pickles

3 iceberg lettuce leaves, chopped finely

Potato Chips of choice

Spicy Mayo: 3 tablespoon Mayo, 2 tsp Cayenne Tabasco Sauce, 1 tablespoon finely chopped green onion

Directions:

1. Chop all vegetable topping and set aside. Slice and toast bread set aside.

We use Philly beef shaved steak that comes in frozen sheets. You can use any shaved steak that you can find though.

2. Place the shaved steak on a pan and on medium heat saute until it cooks half way through. As it's cooking pull the steak apart into little pieces with two forks. Usually the steak sheets don't break apart while cooking and you have to do it manually. Cook for 5 min. just until it starts to brown (not dry up)

3. Add the diced green bell pepper and onion with the cooking oil in the same pan with the half cooked steak and saute on medium heat until the onion is tender.

4. Add spices and soy sauce. Mix well and cook for an additional 3 min.

5. Turn off the heat and add cheese on top of the steak while it's in the pan. Then cover the pan with a pan top. Let sit until the cheese has melted.

6. Now putting the sandwich together: put lettuce on toasted bread, then scoop the steak and cheese from the pan and top on lettuce, add pickles, tomatoes on top, and top with mayo or leave on the side. Enjoy with chips!
